Today I was threatened with a tardy for putting down my purse.

I work in a bookstore in Texas. I am firmly of the mind that I should not be required to be in the building before my scheduled shift time. Clock-in stations are by the entrance. Every day (for the last 3 1/2 years!) I clock in at my exact start time, then put my purse away. The area where I put my purse is about 3 feet from the walkie talkie station I have to go to at start of shift,

and it's an open shelf - literally, I just put it down, turn around, and grab a walkie. This takes literally 2 seconds tops. (And then usually we stand around for a few minutes waiting for a manager to start the meeting we have. at the beginning of every shift.)

Today, I got pulled into my manager's office and threatened to be written up for a tardy, because me dropping off my purse means I'm not "ready to work."

I've been here 3 years and this has never been an issue! Is this legal? Edit: Teeny update - turns out, basically all the women on my shift got this same talk.

KataraMan 18h ago Sounds like they are creating paper trail to fire you with cause

OFPMatt • 18h ago. Yup. The process has begun. Have you noticed they speak to you far less and any conversation is curt?

GuavaShaper • 17h ago. She has a paper trail of her own showing that she is clocking in on time every day.

MarthaGail 19h ago I mean, it's legal to threaten to write you up. Have they told people they need to have their stuff put away and then clock in before? Does this seem like a new policy or perhaps a new manager enforcing a policy that an old one didn't?

NWPop 18h ago • . Do you have a new manager? Or is the same one you have always had? Have you had run ins before or any indication of issues? I think there are a few possibilities: 1. You have a new boss who is a stickler for rules. 2. Your current boss is getting pressure from someone else to enforce rules.

    3. You I the boss off and they are now looking for ways to get rid of you and are starting the paper trail. 4. The boss is having a bad day and being a complete

Either way...I do believe in playing the game until you want to leave. Malicious compliance is a strong suit of mine. You want to be petty? I can be petty and do it with a sweet smile on my face. At the end of the day - if you want to keep your job I would arrive earlier. If you don't care and want to get a new job, keep doing it the way you always have.

Best of luck to you and sorry you are dealing with a micromanaging
